From the central repository use an existing edition with all the necessary content or build a new dataset based on a previous edition. For a totally new publication import the data. Pictures are always attached to their appropriate product or groups of products.
Drag and drop to page mockup
From the easy to view list of products or groups of products drag to the mock-up page where a pseudo page is built using pre-designed template selections e.g. quarter page, sixth page landscape etc.. Quark XPress is not needed at this stage.
Transfer to DTP
Once a page mock-up is done one button sends it to the XPress page ready for the designer to begin layout. Pictures follow their linked copy automatically. The process of transfer to XPress builds automatic, invisible links between every element on the page and Catalog’nTime.
Layout pages in XPress or InDesign
The designer lays out the groups and boxes placed on the page. Tables will have been automatically pre formatted leaving little or no work other than placement. The designer is free to make any layout changes. Once complete the pages are saved back to Catalog’nTime.
Update prices and copy
In the process of producing a catalogue there are constant changes with products added, copy changed, pictures modified etc.. At the last minute prices need to be updated. For a 1000 page catalogue this can be a daunting task, not to mention the proofing of the re-priced pages. With Catalog’nTime it takes a few hours and because the process is automatic no proofing of prices is required as they have all been pre-checked.
Proof, and generate final files
Copy checking is done on laser prints as each page is completed by the designer or when a change has been made. The “do it now” principal means that corrections can be made and proofed as they occur – in the system, without the eternal paper trail found in conventional workflows. At the final stage proofing is for colour, position or image quality, all the copy checking having been done.
